Programme / Operas / The Seven Dog Brothers

Markus Fagerudd: The Seven Dog Brothers

Opera in three acts with a libretto by Pipsa Lonka after the book of the same name by Mauri Kunnas. World premiere at the Savonlinna Opera Festival on July 12, 2008.

Will the seven doggy lads ever learn to read?
How will the seven mutts survive being besieged by bulls?
Which of the furry rascals will win the heart of poochy Venla?

Aleksis Kivi, author of the original Finnish classic, would think himself barking mad if he happened to be present at the take on his novel by Mauri Kunnas, as the seven doggy brothers frisk about on the Olavinlinna Castle stage. Joining in their adventures are the Parish Clerk, cast as a crow, and Mr Clutterbuck.
